The Runtime Error: 53 came up when opening a new Word Document after I
had to reinstall everything on a new laptop, macOS Ventura.
I did Migration Assistant from Time Machine of the user data— but NOT of the Applications — in order to get only fresh applications on the new machine by reinstalling them individually.
The error 53 when creating a new Word document happened because Adobe Acrobat was installed on the old system, but not yet installed on the new. Therefore, the frameworks referenced by the linkCreation.dotm file were absent, thus causing the runtime error.
My advice: Instead of removing the .dotm files for Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, or even just turning them off under Tools/Add-ons in each program, if you use Adobe Acrobat, install it. Then the macros will work, and you are not micromanaging your system.
However, if you do not use Acrobat… then the advice to remove or disable those .dotm Add Ons is probably your best course.
I am not sure whether the free Acrobat Reader would also install these files. Probably not.
This thread discusses removing or disabling the .dotm files, but misses the important information about their purpose and source (Acrobat).
I am posting this as a new question even though it is not a question, because I do not have enough reputation to reply or comment on the high traffic thread.
